What does my functional MD what to about the yeast?

My functional MD, that did the IG test, for Max sent me a list of supplements and prescribed two yeast killers. One of the yeast killers is Nystatin, the other is Diflucan. Honestly my gut says this isn't the way. I paid my homeopath for a consultation on this matter, since I felt that this was a band-aid approach. The GAPS diet book has been sitting on my nightstand for 6 months, it's intimidating and hard to read. After his protocol was given to me I knew that avoiding this diet was in vain. My homeopath is very well versed in GAPS, and she was a big support in helping me stay strong in the fact that yeast and low good bacteria is his biggest issues on the test. Food can fix and change this issue. It's like friendship bread, if it's not feed sugar and carbs it dies. That simple. The diflucan has been stated as being dangerous by my chiro family member and my homeopath. A dog died on it and a friend of my chiro had a heart attach on it. Why should this be administered instead of fermented foods, no complex sugars and lots of broth to heal the gut? One of the best tips from my homeopath is that you can buy grass fed gelatin that is tasteless and easy to mix into any food or drink. Not that homemade broth wont continue to be made and drank, but this will help get lots into him fast. Vitamin A & D are required to make all this happen per homeopath and chiro. The only supplement that I ordered by DR order is a digestive enzyme. I spent my money on Pickl-it jars, yogurt starter and gelatin instead of tons of supplements. I hope to change our food habits for lifelong maintenance. Dr's are people too, they are on a path just like the rest of us. Between all three; chiro, homeopath, and DR, I can find a balance that feels right to me and our family.

Making progress

Max has drank several cups of broth this weekend! I never thought I would get enough in him hiding it and I'm so relieved he will just drink it.

Weak and sick again

Max just came off the bus with flushed skin, low temp and weak. The other kids are going to the pool, he's asleep on the couch. I feel so bad he doesn't have the stamina he should as a young child.

sick again

I picked max up early from school to go to his Occupational therapy visit. He seemed fine. He feel asleep in the car on a way to a quick errand before OT. When I stopped and he woke up he seemed feverish, had read ears and didn't want to talk. I carried him into store, he sat on the floor looking pitiful. I paid and headed to OT thinking that maybe he just need a little recharge. He laid on the bench at OT and we ended up just talking to his therapist and skipped the session since he still felt warm and was obviously not feeling well. He didn't want a drink or food. After checking his backpack, he didn't eat lunch. He was asleep by 5. This am he woke feeling fine. He needs to grow and gain strength. I heated a cup of broth today and drank it, if I'm going to have him do it, I wanted to know what it was like. Not bad. I feel I little more determined and less unsure if I can ever get him to consume enough broth to do the intro.

Need to make bread and figure out what to do with the chicken from the stock

Way more planning involved then I would like to make use of all this expensive food that I'm now trying to make and use. Max needs lunch items for school so bread needs to be made. Only one company makes starch free bread and the store is out till Friday. When I made stock I have chicken that needs to be used. I'm thinking chicken salad, but that requires me making mayo. My mayo making in the past didn't go so well. Sigh. Also have a ton of bookkeeping to do and need to check on my out yards.

and Chloe?

Chloe is a vegetarian carb eater. No meat and little fruit or veggies. She has gained quite a bit of unhealthy weight and it's effecting her life in every way. Headaches, tired, lower grades then she is capable of, ect... Even though I know she will completely bock at a GAPS meat filled diet, I told her that if she doesn't eat breakfast and lunch she will not get any help from us to buy a car. It's her main focus right now. If you wont help your self, I won't help you either. Also, I plan on seeking lots of broth into foods she would never expect. HA! Everybody in this house has health issues that can be solved by diet. It's my goal and focus to make this a top priority.

working our way backwards

Many people who do the GAPS diet don't start with the intro. Personally, since I'm a rip the band aid off type person, I think it's the way to go, but our family has already made plans to spend 5 days at Disney world in Sept and I'm not into telling my son NO the whole time about foods. He is used to gluten free already, so that won't be too bad, I don't think. Disney is very keen on sugary filled gluten, but seems to be on the bandwagon with gluten free alternatives. At home, till we go, we will be doing the full gaps diet as best as I can and as practice for when we go all the way. This means no starch. So all those gluten free subs are not being replaced as they are consumed. Making almond/coconut flour bread today for lunches, Udi's gluten free has lots of starch. Last night at dinner he was made to eat what was offered, we went to the burnt fork for some free range goodness. No banana instead or screwing off till past bedtime then wanting crap food. Both of my kids avoid dinner then get there crap after were done and tired. It's a system that worked well for them till yesterday. Max came down and was hungry, he was told to eat more dinner next time and was sent back to bed. This is hard to do. He has only gained 2lbs in about 2 years. I hate not to feed him, but this is what needs to happen to stop the craziness.
